gotta agree with dave on this one

OP the service you got was above and beyond, seems like tesco have done everything they can and more.

They could have got it right first and second time, as the OP has stated would have been her prefered option more than once.

The gesture is generous, but the whole level of service is certainly not above and beyond anything apart from poor

I'm not disputing that, I'm saying that taking the whole situation the service has been poor.

Getting things wrong twice is above and beyond? I'll pass on that one then

  • I would just like to share my mom's expereince of the same Tesco Opticians, my mom was really pleased with the glasses she bought and the staff, who spent loads of time helping her choose her new glasses. They are really different from her old ones but they look great:j

This was the first time my mom had gone to the opticians in Tesco Bournemouth, she wanted me to go and this was the only place that could see her after I'd finished work. She has had two pairs and is really happy actually her glasses arrived nearly a week early so we can't fault their service.

My mom was so impressed that she is now nagging both me and my dad to go and have our eye tests there.

I agree with the other posts that people are allowed to make mistakes and it does seem that Tesco Opticians did try to sort the problems. Its a shame that DivaDee had such a bad time, but on my moms experience I would go to this opticians in the future.:rotfl:

I went to Tesco Optician today. I have had severely bloodshot eyes for a few weeks now. I went to the doctor and she couldn't care less and just gave me some eyedrops for hayfever, which I do not have. Never had it, don't have any symptons of it. Total waste of time.

I thought that an optician would be more suited for finding out what was wrong with my eyes. I went to Tesco today and mentioned the fact I had been to the doctor about them previously. The optician flat out refused to even look at my eyes, saying he didn't want to interfere with a GP's advice. I told him I had even taken the drops for the past couple of weeks, just in the tiny chance I might have hayfever. No change at all has happened since taking them. The optician still blankly refused to even look at my eyes at all. Just told me to go back to my GP, who couldn't give a crap in the first place.

Making an appointment with D&A or somewhere reputable first thing in the morning to get a proper opinion. I thought opticians were supposed to care about eyehealth? I guess not in the case of Tesco. All they care about is selling you some designer glasses.

It's just the way things are I'm afraid and I'll be interested to hear if D&A are any different. I have a blocked central vein in one eye which requires eye clinic appointments every 3 months or more frequently. I also need specs for reading. The clinic can't deal with anything about the reading specs and the optician can't deal with anything to do with eye condition. Best bet is pester GP into a referral to eye clinic.

    PS
Well done to the fact you must have searched before posting (too many people don't) but you've resurrected a thread which is almost 3 years old so be prepared for some comments from our less tolerant members! Might have been better to start a fresh one.

I thought that an optician would be more suited for finding out what was wrong with my eyes.

Opticians aren't qualified to diagnose or treat disease:

    http://www.lasersurgeryforeyes.com/learnthedifference.html

Opticians are not responsible, nor trained, for eye examinations or treatment solutions for eye disorders. They help you pick our your frames and adjust them to fit comfortably.

Optometrists are doctors who perform annual examinations to treat any vision problems and detect signs of disease and abnormal conditions. Examinations may also include testing for glaucoma, color perception, depth, and the ability to focus and coordinate the eyes. Optometrists must be licensed, have a Doctor of Optometry degree, and pass a state board examination.

Ophthalmologists must acquire a Doctor of Medicine degree, a broad knowledge of general medicine, and clinical training. If a person requires medical or surgical care for an eye disease or an eye injury, he or she will seek the assistance of an ophthalmologist. Your refractive laser surgeon MUST be an ophthalmologist. Ophthalmologists must acquire a Doctor of Medicine degree, a broad knowledge of general medicine, and clinical training. This provides them with enough experience to diagnose and treat all types of eye disorders.

You need one of the other two 'eye specialists'.

    Hi,

Confused ... you went to your doctor with some form of eye infection, got some drops, took them for a few weeks - then when that didn't work, went to an optician .... who quite rightly refused to treat you ...

I would suggest that you back to your doctor & get them to sort.

My doctor openly admits to not wanting to deal with eyes. It's an immediate referral to the nearby eye hospital.
