British Gas price hike advice
Hi all,
British Gas announced a serious price hike which also kicks in today (see http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2008/jul/30/householdbills.familyfinance )
As such, I took the advice on this site's Gas and Electricity page (see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity ) and switched to British Gas Price Guarantee December 2009 via energyhelpline.com.
Previously I was on British Gas' Click Energy 5 tarrif which was very competitive and a lot cheaper then the capped rate. Can anyone confirm that Click Energy 5 will be affected by today's price hike? I've not been able to find that information myself, I hope I've done the right thing to switch to the capped rate?
Many thanks!

I am in the same boat. Signed up at lunch today just before the announcement but am now concerned as the Standard tariff prices which on the website says is dated today shows the following for my region-
STANDARD
Direct Debit Gas
Tier 1 7.149
Tier 2 3.578
Direct Debit Elec
Tier 1 24.839
Tier 2 11.157
PRICE CAP TO DEC 2009
Direct Debit Gas
Tier 1 6.754
Tier 2 2.833
Direct Debit Elec
Tier 1 25.916
Tier 2 10.894
The gas saving is small and I understand capped rate means we were paying about 10% extra on top of the standard rate to secure the prices but I guessed this would mean we would still be saving about 10% on this afternoons price increases!!!0
