Gas/Electricity Suppliers, help with decision making!
When it comes to Gas and Electricity suppliers I'm at a complete loss, and blinded by all the figures and prices. With the announcements today of increased British Gas prices, I wondered if anyone could help determine the best move to make to ensure savings, not only now but in the future.
I'm currently with British Gas (Energy 5) for Gas, spending around £100 per quarter.
For electricity I'm with EDF Energy (Standard), spending around £100 per quarter also.
Are dual fuel options from a single utility supplier a better idea, can anyone recommend where I should be getting my gas/elec from? I'm in Cheshire, not sure if it makes any difference.
Sorry for being a dumb a55

Blimey, you dissappear down the list quickly one here
Anyone able to help?0 -
First off, no need to panic...£800p.a. is quite good.
Direct debit, dual fuel and online billing is cheaper.
Best to use kwh in the comparison sites, be exact.Use one site until you are familiar with how they work. Energyhelpline I use.
There will be options for capped offers, where you pay a premium. I would sooner look for ways to cut down than pay extra.
Lots of posters on holiday just as more posts requesting help so messages do get run over.
P.S...if you do find a cheaper comparison tis important to check it manually, have your existing figures in front of you.0 -
Thanks for your help, I've had a 'quick' look at a few comparison sites but for the most part (yesterday) they didn't have the new British Gas prices up. Having said that, it doesn't seem to have affected Click Energy 5 for some reason, no idea why??? Do you think it will?
I had a look at dual fuel from British Gas for example, there doesn't appear to be any saving in tariff, just a £15 discount over a year which isn't exactly a lot. Should I be expecting more from another provider?0 -
There really is no simple answer to your question.
Firstly disregard what you pay when trying to calculate your best supplier; as it isn't a good measure of your consumption. For instance you won't pay £100 for a winter quarter for gas and the same in a summer quarter.
You have to find out what your annual consumption is for gas and electricity in kWh** and enter that information in several comparison websites.
Sometimes the Dual fuel options are best but sometimes not.
However the cheapest tariffs are invariably internet accounts(like BG's Click 5), you pay by DD and enter meter readings etc, and these are normally dual fuel only(if you have gas!)
**Find this from your bills or ask your supplier0
