Dithering_Dad wrote: »I remember an episode of the Tonight program years ago where Martin Lewis was comparing the returns from investing as opposed to BTLing. He had stopped paying into his pension and instead invested in several BTLs. He then went to see a financial advisor who told him that the rises in the property market far outstripped the rises in the stock market and that his BTL investments had made £10's of thousands more than they would had he invested in a traditional pension.
How many people saw Martin's success on that program and jumped onto the BTL bandwaggon? How many are now ruing that decision? Should Martin have been happy with the fruits of his labour and not have made that TV program?
To take this further, should Alvin and the rest of the TV financial advisors stop publicising their success and the success of their clients? Should investment funds stop promoting the success of their investments?
No, I'm sorry but the only reason I can see why people care if the rich flaunt their wealth and success is simply due to jealousy. I couldn't give a monkey's about the Wilson's or Richard Branson or Premier Footballers - I'm too busy sorting out my own finances and living my own life to worry about someone else's.
I think it was Jonathan Maitland, not Martin Lewis?0 -

Oh no. I was enjoying the kittens conversation.
Or recipes, anyone?
Cat recipes - link
While we're on the subject, the ancient art of the Bonsai Kitten has been brought to the West courtesy of these chaps - linkAt only a few weeks of age, a kitten's bones have not yet hardened and become osseous. They are extremely soft and springy. In fact, if you take a week-old kitten and throw it to the floor, it will actually bounce! We do not recommend that you try this at home....
However, the flexibility of the kitten's skeleton means that if the bones are gently warped at this early age, they can be molded into any desired shape.
At Bonsai Kitten, we achieve this by placing the kitten into a rigid vessel soon after birth, and allowing the young cat to grow out its formative time entirely within this container. The kitten essentially grows into the shape of the vessel! Once the cat is fully developed, it is removed (or the vessel broken to remove it!), producing the lovable, furry pet you've always wanted, but it remains in the shape you've always dreamed of!0 -

I would imagine they are doing fine because only flats lose money, their 2 bed houses are immune to all this trouble.:rolleyes:0 -
