Annoying Recruitment Agencies

Referring back to my earlier post I went and registered with the agency. I had applied for a vacancy they advertised last week. Apparently the job (if it ever existed) was filled a couple of weeks ago! So why is it still advertised by the agency as vacant? To add insult to injury the consultant said I the only jobs I am suitable for are jobs paying about £4k less than that advertised.

If agencies want people on their books why not advertise for them I would happily register. I don't appreciate the lies and false hope or the assumption that I am an idiot:mad:

My hubby has finally got fixed up through an agency ( although it was really a favour to him from the agency who supply his ex company with staff) it's terrible pay but it is ongoing and will pay the bills for a while.:j
His timing was impeccable when he quit his job  - the day he resigned, his boss and the GM of the factory were "removed" from their jobs and hastily replaced - hubby was called in to a meeting and he half expected them to ask him to return but it wasn't to be, plus after all the lies certain members of his team have told in an effort to cover themselves, he no longer wanted to return.
They have sent a letter to him today, stating that his resignation is being treated as 1 month's notice and they will be paying him for August and a few days holiday pay as well :T - the HR manager has been the only decent one involved in all this and is giving him a glowing reference, thank goodness.

He started his temp job today and within an hour the manager asked him what the hell he was doing working for £7 an hour when it was clearly "beneath him" - he was bored stupid but had a whole half hour break, something he's not had for almost 2 years - he clocked off bang on time and was home 15 minutes later, instead of doing 2 hours of paperwork unpaid.
The only downside is the fact that it's £250 per week less than he's used to.

i applied for several jobs through one agency online recently... he goned me at work so i rang back at lunchtime and he was 'on another call and would call me back'. next day i fone and he's 'out to lunch'. 3rd day i fone and speak to him and he asks me my name and such, and then says he 'cant find my CV' as 'we get loads of cv's' n blah blah. he even had the cheeck to blame his computer for running slow. he then ended with 'can u email me it again'?? HAHAAAAAAAAA u had ur chance mate!!!!

there are a lot of fake jokes, reed window is full of them. u go in and they say 'oh its been filled' and u point to another and the same rubbish'. their online system is good but again some agencies use it just to get u onto their books rtaher than for a job u applied for.

one contacted me and i didnt recognise the agency and asked her where she got my CV from and she said 'monster i think...' well for a start ive never used monster and she said 'oh but its the most recent one'. she musta got it through a fake job on reed she posted. she started bombarding me with texts at 7am asking me to go resister n blah blah. she gave up after i ignored her.

ive foned a fair few back asking them to delete me as ive heard NOTHING from them since joining!

Is there no law against this kind of thing?? tis a shame!
  • I've had a lot of experience with agencies, as to be honest it seems to be the only type of work that is readily available round where I live. My experience of them has been mixed. The one I am with now is quite good and have found me stuff often. However, to get into this position I did have to have two interviews and various aptitude tests before they would even take me on their books. They have also been good in letting me turn down a temp position if I'm not intrested in it without it affecting my future job prospects.

However, I have had some agencies which have been nothing like this. One agency in particular placed me somewhere where 6 temps had walked out of the job in 4 weeks. Usually I always ask why the position is 'vacant' and the response I got in this case was- maternity leave- what a lie!!The job was horrendous it was basically running a large office, totally single handedly for minimum wage, despite the fact the agency had told me it was basic reception work. The boss was a bit creepy and used to try and 'dance' with the various women who worked in the building, something which also made me feel uncomfortable, and why various previous temps had left. However, despite this I completed the week I had been assigned to do- relieved it was all over. However, the following Monday I was phoned and asked if I would go back there permanently, when I said no I had a rude response and a rude letter effectively 'cutting me off' from their services. Really pathetic.

I know Recruitment need to make a living to, as various other people have pointed out, but I am entitled to turn down a job if I'm not intrested, and by annoying me they have lost me as a customer and anyone else I might have recommended-seems a bit of a silly way to do business really!

I have used agencies a lot. As I have lived in two different cities and used agencies in both cities, I find that 2 offices from the same agency treat me different. I had bad experience in one office and the other office treated me different.

The last assignment with a temp I had was covering maternity leave. Was expecting the contract to finish at the end of Jan 2009. I only been working there for 5-6 weeks as the person doing maternity cover left to start a perm job. The person who I was covering wanted to go back to work as needed the money has had 6 months off. She had the cheek to phone the Friday saying 'I be starting work on Monday'.

A few days before I started, I was told by the agency, who were based in an office 75 miles from where I live and the job was 10 miles from my home (I don't get it as to why some agencies operate miles away from the assignments) to give my P45 to the agency office nearest to me. Then they would fax it over/sent it in internal post to them. After receiving my first pay, they deducted the annoying emergency tax. Advised them that I am not on the right tax code. I faxed the bit of the P45, which employees keep to them and they sent me a P46. I filled that in and posted off straight away. Yet I was still deducted emergency tax. Because of their stupidity, I am having to wait SEVEN weeks for getting £150 back!!!

Now since I have left - a month this coming Monday (11/8), I have not received my P45. I have e-mailed and phoned them at least 8 times a week and this weekend sent them a recorded delivery letter as they have not acknowledged any of my e-mails and everytime I phone them, they say along the lines of 'the person you need to speak to is at lunch/on a meeting/not at their desk etc'. Then they take my name and number to say I will get called back. Nothing! I am trying to claim JSA at the moment, but claim cannot be processed until I get a P45 or a letter from the agency with dates of employment. I can claim from the day I phoned in to arrange for an appointment.

    This was five years ago.

I went for a permament position as a bank cashier through an agency. The advert said £xk per year was the salary PLUS bonuses.

However when I got my second payslip (as first month was for 3.5 weeks) I multiplied my gross pay for the month by 12 and was c£1.3k less than the figure advertised. I asked the HR dept at my work what do I need to get the pay advertised. They told me to raise the issue at the agency. Sent a photocopy of my payslip with a note explaining the pay dispute. They didn't bother to help. I am not too sure if the actual employer should have sorted this out as I was employed by the company, not the agency.

£1.3k pa after tax etc is about £85 per month. £85 could have paid for either my council tax (grade A) or 2-3 monthly direct debits.

As the job was rubbish and set me unrealistic targets - for example TWO mortgage leads per week when we had the same 200 customers week in, week out in the most expensive area of the city. Customers either had paid off their mortgage, had a couple of years left (no point in transferring then), unable to buy a house or lived in council housing!

I got a better job working in a call centre earning £2k per year more than in the bank and was less stressful!

  • I'm with an agency and for every hour I work for £5.52 they also get the same and we still have to pay for transport there and back  .
They assume that people will do a 6am shift meaning a pick up time of around 4am onwards after a shift ending 10pm so getting home around 11pm which is not right at all.
They are terrible regarding pay and have said to people that they were not at work when they have singed in the van, on the way into the factory as well as in the factory  . What is up with that I have no idea and have paid people for half days when they have actually worked a full day  .
Have had a go at me for not doing a 5 day week which aparently I am contracted to. That is absolute BS as I am not garenteed days, hours or pay no matter what and as I am a temp it's when I can do it when they ask  .
They are brilliant for taking you on a guilt trip as the more people they have in the more money they get due to hours and transport  .

Don't get me wrong they are good as they had me in for an interview and I was working the next day which was amazing and my fiancé did the same as he needed the money also but they could definatly be better :rotfl: .

When looking for work (that's when I got the job at the bank mentioned in an earlier post). As I didn't have a car, I told various job agencies that I can only work in Leeds. Agencies contacted me with 'I got a great position in Huddersfield'

Thank's for not bothering to consult my file.
