Annoying Recruitment Agencies

Does anyone find agencies really rude and arrogant, especially if you change your mind or do not accept a job offered?

    Totally...............................

I applied for two jobs with an agency a couple of weeks ago, I then called them 5 days later to check on the situation as they hadn't responded to my emails, and also to enquire why the same job was appearing with different reference numbers on their website. The response I got was, "it's a tough market out there and we have to do what we can to get prospective employees on our book regardless of whether we have the jobs".

Needless to say, I will just keep plodding away on my own looking for jobs via the papers and not with agencies.

Good luck with your job search.

Doing this means that they potentially lose out on a fee of a good few grand, would you not be annoyed if it was the other way round?

I understand that but am so angry.

I got offered a job to start tomorrow but found out the pay was incl. holiday pay and therefore the basic pay was less and I had already taken a pay cut. Then another agency get me a job, little further out but more money and better company. Now I have the two agencies fighting over me.

The former increased the pay but in his email said 'I will just have to go hungry for a few days'....!!!!!!!?!?

Either way, someone isnt going to like me by the end of today.

Don't worry about someone not liking you by the end of the day.

You have to do what is in your best interests and not theirs.

Good luck with whatever job you take.

I know, I just get really upset with they way they talk to you and put you under pressure. Especially when they say how they are risking a relationship with an important client etc....

My OH does lotS of agency work and they are very fickle, he turned down one job recently after interview (the first time he had ) and the agency got the right hump-acted like he was on JSA or something and not entitled to have any say! He was particualrly annoyed as he'd done 3 placements via that agency with no problems. They ignored him after thiS and he's only with them again now because an employer asked for him, so petty!

Exactly, two agencies have done that to me.

I don't think agencies are a complete waste of time BUT I do think you should be VERY clear on WHAT an agency is. It isn't a 'service' it is a 'business'. They are salespeople and what they sell is YOU! Simple as that. I work in the Social Care sector and was a Recruitment Consultant for 2 years, but have also been on the other end, as an agency worker and have had HORRIBLE teatment too....at the end of the day, that is down to the fact that the consultants have targets and money hungry gaffers on their backs so their pressure becomes your pressure! Go in with eyes open and don't allow them to pressure you...I know that's easier said than done, because I had a woman reduce me to tears the first experience I had with an agency but remember they want to make money FROM YOU and keep remembering that....use them as they use you and try and make it a 2 way experience, if possible!
