It all depends on where your travelling from, when your travelling and how long your going for, but I'll provide a sample of train fares for you.
London - Swindon Saver Return £37 (for 1 adult. As the child is under 5, you don't need a ticket.)
London - Reading Cheap Day Return £14.20
Reading - Swindon Saver Return £20
Note - if you choose this option, the train has to call at Reading, otherwise you will be charged the full Standard Open Single/Return.
London - Didcot £18 Cheap Day Return
Didcot - Swindon £7.90 Cheap Day Return
Note - If you choose this option, then the train must call at Didcot.
On a further not, I am an admin on a railway forum where there others who can give better advice than me, but I'm reluctant to name it in case it's advertising. Perhaps one of the MSE team can contact me about it ....0 -

Fair enough. Seeing as Kempton Park is an excursion only station, then the next best station for you is Staines (direct service to Reading from there). Here is another breakdown of fares for you ....
Staines - Swindon Saver Return £22.50
Staines - Reading Cheap Day Return £8.60 or Standard Day Return £8.70
Reading - Swindon Saver Return £20
This is dearer than the through ticket, so no good to you.
Staines - Reading CDR £8.60 SDR £8.70
Reading - Didcot CDR £6.90 SDR £7.40
Didcot - Swindon CDR £7.90
This option saves you 10pence on the through fare, plus you have to make sure your train calls at Didcot
My advice is to buy the Saver Return between Staines and Swindon, that way, you don't have the hassle of multiple tickets and having to ensure the train calls at Didcot, plus the return portion is valid for 30 days.0
