I managed to solder butternut squash to my last and favourite aluminium pan. After 3 days of trying everything to retrieve it I finally admitted defeat and took it to my dad this morning who used a wire brush attachement on an electric drill to clean it for me.
He also cleaned off the lump of plastic chopping board that was welded to the bottom when I put it downOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Soak it first.
Then you can also try diswasher detergent:rather violent when rubbed in!I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
If the pan's not a non-stick pan, use a metal scourer once you've soaked in vinegar/lemon juice/cola. I find that this works a treat!0

I dont think it will stink as its the peelings your boiling, and not the onions!!0 -

If the above don't work and you haven't got an electric drill, I have found perseverence works, that is soak overnight and scrape off what you can, then soak for another 24 hrs and scrape again and so on for as long as it takes - I am great at burning food on pans! and using this technique I have not lost one yet! Also for the scraping try using a plastic spatula - it sounds daft, but it really does work.0

Amazingly, I did not get a chance to try out any of these wonderful tips, as my other half tried the perseverence method wothout me even realising it!!
(This doesn't often happen in the kitchen, I have to say. I don't know what happened to him that night)Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
cheese - you may be as well investing in a box of Tesco (or wherever you shop) value biological powder. I have such a box for cleaning jobs as I wouldn't wash my clothes in it.
Last time I burnt a pan - I boiled the bio powder in the pan, then left it to soak overnight. Also found that when boiling if you bung your dishclothes/dish brushes in the pan too, they get a good clean and also with the aid of a wooden spoon, you can use them to scrub at the bottom of the pan too.
Add it to your shopping list. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say0 -
Or soak in a solution of dishwasher powder, made with hot water, and leave for a few hours. Works a treat!0

I see that the problem is already solved, long before I got here, but just wanted to say that boiling water/vinegar in the pan does work! That's what I do on those occasions when I burn something (hopefully not too often!)0
