I have just been listening to the BBC Three Counties Consumer Programme and a poor woman has phoned in who has paid out £38,000 on the promise that she has won the Spanish lottery. It's even worse than that, because she has taken out a bank loan to pay for this and so she now owes £60,000 to the bank.

This woman (who is 69) has been strung along for two years by the scum operating this scam and she still believes they are good people. She even asked one of them if it was a scam, and of course, he told her "no".

My heart goes out to this woman but it looks as though she will never get her money back. Her only hope is that the bank will be sympathetic and not charge her that extra interest on her loan.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

I've just a call fom them on
    02071941569
    (02071 941569)

The number that they gave to me was: 0423 3779797

    They wanted an email address.
Said that their lotto was better than uk one.
Said I had a 1 in 7 chance of winning something.
Can't be arsed to work any of it out, it'll all be crap.

I'm now playing the time delay game (never reply to anything until the silence is broken by them, then answer slowly the previous question).

    They want 50EUR.
    Happy chappy

Yeah I saw that, poor woman.

Normally I dont have much sympathy for people who get scammed through ignorance and greed, but the elderly are more vulnerable and trusting so it really angers me when things like this happen.

    Hi,
For a change I am working from home, its amazing how many weird callers you get.

Just 5mins ago, I too had a call from a person who said he was from the World Lotto Corporation, I just said I had never heard of them and he just said, OK Sir GoodBye!.

I also get those people who say they can eliminate ALL your debt legally and not have to pay a penny. IF ONLY I COULD bring myself to believe this was true, i would not be in the mess I am right now, Up to my eyeballs in debt :-(

    R.
  • Well, I was nearly sucked in by it, right up to the point where he asked me for the expiry date on my card - he claimed not to have my card number so why on earth would he want the expiry date?!!!

The World Lotto Corporation actually looks like it might be legitimate. The people ringing up trying to get your details are definitely scammers though.

I just got a phonecall to my mobile number from +052554608. The person that rang me had an Indian-sounding accent, knew my name and address, and wanted my date of birth, email address, and debit card details. I had him on the phone for about ten minutes to waste his time and find out more about the scam. He was able to tell that the debit card number I gave was false. I thought about giving him a genuine card number with a wrong CVV, but didn't want to run the risk of him somehow finding that out from the same place where he got my name and address (possibly a gambling company).

Registering with MPS and TPS won't stop calls like this btw, as scammers just ignore them.

Panda3 looks like a scammer too btw.
