Motorcycle Restoration Woes

Hello all

My dad is having his classic motorcycle restored by a restoration company.

Earlier this year, my dad was presented with an invoice that stated it was the final invoice for parts and labour to complete the motorcycle. My dad promptly paid this.

Last week, the guy said he needed more money to finish the job.

Understandablely, considering the invoice clearly stated that is was the final invoice to complete the restoration work, my dad is quite upset.

Is there a legal position on something like this?

Many thanks

M

  • Final invoice on the work already done, or final invoice to complete restoration of the motorcycle?

Its not entirely unreasonable to be charged for more work if required, however it should have been approved first.
  • Final Invoice to complete the restoration.
  • If that is what the invoice says, then you have a good case for not paying any more. However, bear in mind that the person doing the restoration may have good cause to charge extra, perhaps they found a serious fault. These things need to be viewed reasonably.

I would consider that the person restoring the bike should have first contacted you to authorise further repairs. Perhaps you could compromise on the cost.
