Shower/Mixer tap problem

Hi

Don't know if anyone can help. I have a mixer tap and shower on my bath with a handle to turn from the taps to the shower. Recently when it is turned to the shower, there is more water coming out of the taps than the shower head. The water coming out of the shower is more of a trickle compared to the taps. Is this easily sorted or do I need to get a professional in?

Sorry it's not explained well - don't know the technical jargon!!

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Could be a washer on the valve that diverts the flow between taps and shower needs replacing. Should be able to replace it yourself for a few pence ...assuming you can work out how to get into it.
