Confused or what ?? Advice needed...

I am currently with EDF. I have been looking at getting a capped price and got EON, and British Gas to choose from.....Via energy helpline.com I picked EON 'price protection 2009'...... and went through the motions online....when it asked me for my Gas Meter Reference number...it came back about my gas transporter being an IGT and that EON's IGT charge is £10.50 per quarter. They will either apply a surcharge or itemise a seperate IGT charge...
I then backtracked and selected British Gas as my chosen supplier and never got the message about IGT.......does this mean that EON is an IGT rather than my current provider EDF who I want to switch from ? I have noticed British Gas's tariff is slightly higher than the post increase tariff on EDF but it is for a capped price, so I would expect this..... I don't know whether to switch to BG or try and get a capped price with Scottish Power..... I cant get on the comparison page on Scottish Power's website..
Boy this is so confusing....!! Have tried the energy helpline customer services number but understandably its permanently engaged....
Any advice on the points Ive raised would be most helpful..
Cheers !!

I also switched to Eon yesterday from EDF, I went through Energy Help, but did not get the message that came up for you. A confirmation message (sent to my email address) stated
What will happen next:
1. You now have a 7 working day cooling off period during which you can contact your new supplier or us to cancel your switch if you change your mind.
2. Within a few weeks your new supplier will send you a welcome pack including information about them and your new tariff.
3. Your switch will take place in about 5-6 weeks. You will be sent the date by your new supplier about 3 weeks from now. On the switch date you should take a meter reading and inform your new supplier of this.
4. Your old supplier will be informed of this meter reading and draw up your final bill.
5. If you have a direct debit with your old supplier they should only take what they are due after the switch date however to ensure you do not get over billed you can cancel this direct debit after your switch date and pay them by cheque or another method you have full control over.
I just needed to supply my postal address and fill out a direct debit form.
Go in and try again

Just thought are you on a KEY METER instead of direct debit?Debt Free!!!0 -
I don't know what to do now. I can get a capped energy saver 4 from E-on that is 12% more than what I am paying now or from BG 7% more than what I am paying. Is Martin saying the increase hikes will be a lot more than these so it's worth doing?
thanks

My understanding is that the IGT status is dependent upon your property rather than whether you are on a key meter or pay by direct debit. It depends on how the gas is supplied to your property - does it go through the IGT pipeline. I believe the house builders now typically select IGT because it is cheaper for them.0

Thanks for the info guys..... No I ain't on a key meter.... I'm on a credit meter like a lot of other folk..... We live in a new build home...been here 3 years. Prior to that was with British Gas but when we moved here the property was new and energy supplier was SWEB energy which we had to stay with for 28 days minimum......we never bothered to switch coz it was cheap energy then.....later SWEB became EDF..... I don't understand this IGT thing...I never got that when I selected BG as my preferred supplier this morning( on the energy helpline.com). I don't think Im gonna get a capped price now coz BG has just hiked up its prices.....probably left it too late now.
The only other one was EON and tyheyve removed their cap offer. Im not even sure whether I want a capped price....It is so confusing and there does seem to be a bit of a panic on now to get a cap before they all go....
Might as well stay with EDf and just ride it out.....!!0
