Fast Credit Card Application

Hi

I am traveling to Spain on Weds 6th August and need a credit card to hire a car. Only have a Visa debit card which is not accepatable.

Does anyone know of a Credit Card company that offers a fast application process, would be willing to pay extra.

Thanks

I think you will be lucky to get anyone to approve you and get cards to you within that time. If you could get an instant online decision it might help but thats not guaranteed. And even if you were accepted there is no guarantee the cards will arrive in time. If you are travelling with someone else do they have a credit card you could use?

just another thought, what about the pre-paid visa cards that you can get?

    Have a look here:

I dont know much about these but you can get visa/mastercard ones which might be enough. You've have to make sure the hire company would accept them of course.

If you apply in a branch today and your application is approved Abbey may be able to get one to you. Not guaranteed, but I have seen customers get their card and PIN within 5 days of being approved. You'll be too late to apply for anything online, as you'll need to sign and post back a credit agreement before a card can be issued.

Thank You for taking the time to reply.

I am going to pop into Abbey at lunchtime and apply for a card.

We are travelling with another family who are hiring a car from the same company, only problem is that it states that the main driver must pay with a credit card.

Just concerned that we will have to hire a taxi to our villa which is 60miles away from the airport. Myself and my wife cancelled our credit cards a couple of years ago, wish we hadn't now.

Good luck. Might be worth keeping a card in the future just for situations like this, even if you dont use it for anything else.

Thanks, funnily enough I have just applied for an egg card online, they don't require any paperwork, fingers crossed it will come through before Wednesday.

Yes. Egg let you do everything on line it's true. You tick a box to "sign". Virgin is set up so you can sign electronically as well. Both give instant decisions and credit limits and they're known to deal with online applications faster than most, but I still think 7 days is cutting things awfully fine.

Let us know how you get on.

    Very best

Ulster Bank were the quickest for me, applied on a Sunday night, instantly accepted with a £3k limit and the card was with me by the Friday morning!

  • Quick update

Just returned home after a great holiday in Spain. My egg card didn't arrive in time but was waiting on my doormat for me when we came back.

As luck would have it Solmar rental cars accepted my Visa Debit card, despite claiming to only accept credit cards on their website, so didn't need a credit card after all.

Egg processed my card between 1-2 weeks which I will keep for future holiday car rentals.

Thanks for assisting me with this problem which could have caused a major disruption to our holiday! :j
