Cancelling Pet Insurance

Hi,

We have two dogs oof which one is insured with More Than which is due for renewal in April.

having gotten a few quotes for the new dog, Axa is a couple of quid cheaper per month and the cover seems a lot better.

Can i cancel the insurance with more than so i can insure both dogs with Axa?

usually you just stop paying the premiums and that cancels the insurance.

Do make sure that the older dog will not have any expensive exemptions on the new cover - any pre -existing conditions that AXA may decide they wont cover

Pretty sure, but not 100%, that most companies treat the insurance period as 12 months (i.e. DD is just a sort of finance method to spread the cost of the premium). So much so that some subtract remaining months premiums in the insurance year from the payout when your pet dies :) .

So call MoreThan first and ask them. That aside, you are making a good choice regarding the relative levels of cover. And it's cheaper :) . suki's point about pre-existing conditions is paramount though.

I think Bromley86 is right, if you just stop paying the premiums you will usually still be liable for the rest of the year's premiums. Sometimes the cancellation charge means it's not worth cancelling, but you need to speak to them first and find out. If you want to move to Axa anyway, then it may be worth just paying the cancellation charge as it's a long term choice.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
  • when i say older dog, she is only 2 1/2 years old!

no pre-exisitng conditions (she cut her paw earlier in the year, thats the only claim so far) so that should not be a problem.

    thanks

More then may match the price that Axa have qouted, worth phoning them and asking, saying you want to leave because you've found a better qoute, they may not want to lose you
  • thanks kim but its really the improved cover that i'm after. i would happily pay the more than price for the axa cover,

Also check out PDSA pet insurance. It's underwritten by AXA and 20% of the premium goes to the charity - gives you a nice warm feeling :grouphug:.

Be aware that most pet insurances don't cover illness within the 14 days [injuries are covered but it's to deter people signing up when they know their pet is ill], so if you cancel your existing policy you might want to set a cancellation date 2 weeks after starting the new policy.
