Returning item to play.com

I wonder if anyone can help please.

I've made a mistake in ordering a laptop bag that is too small for the laptop but I've only just discovered this and I'm over the 7 day return period (and obviously it's been opened).

I received the bag a week before the laptop, which arrived around 18th July. I didn't check it as I've ordered it for my daughter who is away at present. I've just tried to put it in the bag and it's too small. And yes, on checking the detail it does say suitable for 15" and its 15.4" (though on other sites it says 15.4")

On reading their returns policy it seems I can't as it isn't faulty. Any ideas please? I've tried to find a telephone number to contact them but can't see one. It's an expensive bag too - but I'm a good customer so hoping there is a way to return it!

There is no telephone number for play .com (their one big failing). You will have to go to their website and trawl through the returns procedure.

If the bag was advertised on their site as 15.4in and the laptop is 15.4in, you might be able to return it under description of services!

It could be argued to play's customer services but it's still at their discretion. You've got no legal backup or the normal consumer rights because play.com aren't in the UK.

Thanks for the replies.

I have trawled through the returns policy and it wouldn't be eligible, a. because it is opened and b. I'm over the 7 day limit. I couldn't have returned it within that time as I didn't have the laptop anyway.

On play.com it is advertised as 15" (now I've checked). It was on another that is said up to 15.4" - can't seem to find it now! I could have made a mistake as I looked at so many at the time. So it was my fault but obviously I haven't used it and I still need a bag!

I may just put it away for possible future use (who knows what will happen to laptops over the next few years.
