Go to customer relations direct at VW. Don't take any cr*p. Contact Consumer direct and any other organisation that you can think of. Tell dealer and VW that you intend to do all of this. They will not like bad publicity - especially the way the market is at the moment.

Taking note of what all the other posters have said, but would suggest that it need not be a particularly nasty situation from herein.

I do think you need to complain, in writing, to VW, but your legal contract under the Sale of Goods Act is with the dealer - and that is who can arrange for the car to be replaced - the Manufacturers Warranty does not extend to this - only to the repair or replacement of parts found to be faulty due to manufacturing or design fault.

As I said, write to dealer, copying letter to VW and asking them to investigate - they will then arrange for a Tech. Rep. to investigate the situation with the dealer, and try to resolve matters.

Ultimately, it may be that they will not want to change this car as it has 21,000 on the clock - but if it has been as troublesome as it has this may still be negotiable - but in my experience we were always more willing to go further to help someone who did not scream, shout and rant - but calmly explained the problems they had had - so be firm but nice in the first instance!

    Good luck.
