EDF Energy have been billing me incorrectly for the last 3 years - resulting in a massive overpayment (over £800).
The Problem
I have never owed anything much over a tenner on my energy bills for he past 20 years but for the past 6 months I have been in dispute with EDF Energy over increasing energy bills for no apparent reason.
The reason for the exponential increase in my bill was due to a being incorrectly billed in cubic feet - but my meter reads in cubic meters. This problem was excacerbated due to EDF Energy's price hike of gas over the past 18 months.
Why is this a problem?
EDF Energy bill residential customers for their gas consumption in KwH. To convert from cubic feet to cubic meters the gas meter reading is first multiplied by 2.83 before being converted to KwH (see the back of your gas bill how to do the calculations).
This resulted in my bill being increased nearly 3 times actual consumption!
The stress and anxiety was enormous as I was receiving requests to increase my monthly payment from £100 to £250!!!!
How to check how you are billed:
I tackled EDF Energy about the problem and they were very non plus about the problem. The representaive I spoke to said that with 6 million customers to deal with this problem is difficult to track. Despite having software to spot this trend we, "fell between the cracks". Although it was confirmed that EDF are now changing over their billing software to prevent this from re-occurring.

How to check how you are billed:
1. Check your bill to see how you are billed (Cubic Feet or Cubic Meters).
2. Check your meter to see if they corelate (a meter that has a m3 on it on the front facure and has 5 dials will be reading in cubic meters).
3. Call your company and claim a refund!
