What great service! Saw the original post last Thursday, filled in the form online and the card arrived 2 days later on Saturday. A gov dept which really works.

Ordered mine the 26th, the day I posted and got them all this morning.

I think your doctor's surgery should have your NHS number/s in their records too.

I've blutacked ours to our passports' penultimate page.

I've also recently found that you can get free replacement medical cards from either your local health authority or through your doctor's surgery. http://www.direct.gov.uk/Hl1/Help/YourQuestions/YourQuestionsArticles/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=10015151&chk=AGg376 Mine's got pretty tatty since '72. And talking of replacements, NI number cards are also free from the tax office and or social security office http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/nic/ynino.htm#8 on a one time only basis though (if lost or stolen) too, but sadly in both cases there's no online forms at present.
