new dvd recorder and tv

hi folks
im having problems setting up my new tv and dvd unit
i had a tv in the bedroom connected to an Ariel cat ears and sky box (sky on rf2? and bloody long cable) worked fine
got dvd recorder toshiba and found old tv was not compatible,
now have 19"Philips lcd tv
now i can get analogue stations or sky but not both
sky--goes to analogue in on dvd (coaxle)
dvd--analogue out to tv (coaxle)
scart connected to dvd and tv,
to get anoluge signals when i dont want sky i have to plug the aerial in and out
tv forgets prog store each time Ariel is unpluged,
got to be doing something wrong?
also just a thought i haven't programmed tv stations on dvd yet either, but that shouldn't effect tv pic should it??
or have i got it completely !!! ways
