Hi, could someone clarify for me the advantages or disadvantages of buying a laptop with one of these processors Amd turion x2 tl 60 V Intel core 2 duo t5450. I know from experience that Intel seems to be the better processor but i have an Hp pavilion dv2104 eu running Amd turion tl 60 and have had no problems . As my daughter is starting college in sept i thought i would give her my laptop and replace it with another Hp pavilion and i was curious what the real difference is after having used an intel based laptop and a centrino based laptop i personally prefer Amd am i in a minority any advice would be welcome.

Over the last few years Intel would appear to have taken over the processor market, so I would strongly suggest the Intel, they just work faster, usually cooler and usually more energy efficient, but then again I use a Mac and we don't have AMDs hehe0

For what reason? (Not being combative; just curious to know why.)
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

I have a few friends who advise me to go for the intel but they're not really techie minded and people seem to just say intel but as i have said i'm quite happy with Amd. I just want to know if there are any great gains i do photo and video editing and i use itunes a lot. I'm not a gamer so that does'nt concern me, does this explain0

I would go for the Intel out of those two because the AMD looks considerably older. If you lookup reviews of the TL60 it compares (and loses out to) much older Intel processors, so stick with the Intel. Both have 2 cores so the photo/video editiing will be good, but for hardcore video editting I'd go for a desktop with a Intel core 2 quad Q6600, they are cheap and fast (and can work twice as hard encoding video).0

Does anybody else have any opinions?0

Centrino is a brand of intel processors, specifically for laptops
Regarding intel Vs AMD, intel has been winning for a couple of years now, since they released the Core 2 line of processors. Plus, they are slightly easier to understand, since if a processor is 1.7Ghz, thats how fast it is, while the AMD ones may only be 1.5Ghz, but they are as powerful as a 1.7Ghz intel.
Also, what about the rest of the laptop specs? Do they have the same ammount of RAM? Same graphics?0 -

Actually it isn't. "Centrino" is the name of a platform not a processor. It's the name of the standard platform (i.e. all Intel) including processor, m/b chipset and wireless chip/card. If it's a "Centrino" laptop the processor could be anything from Pentium M to Core 2. There's no such thing as a Centrino processor."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

When deciding between AMD or Intel for a laptop, the price point is important.
AMD's latest Puma platform has very high ratings for budget laptops as its integrated graphics chip has much better performance than Intel's. For a low-cost entertainment solution, the Puma platform, identified by the Turion Ultra series of processors, is ideal.
At higher price points, or if you're looking for pure performance, Intel's Centrino platform wins. The processors are faster and you're likely to get a discrete graphics chip, avoiding Intel's integrated graphics (which are fine for everyday use but get sluggish when playing HD movies and have nowhere near the minimum performance required for modern games).
Pound for pound you get more computer by choosing AMD, just that above a certain performance requirement only Intel offers a product.
P.S. - I use a Centrino laptop myself, but it's a very high-end one, and there wasn't an AMD option offering the speed I wanted.0
