dehumidifiers

I live in rented accomm and both bedrooms are very badly affected by damp, to the point where it has affected my health. I have a dehumidifier which i use in the winter. It really needs to be on 24/7 but am wondering how expensive this would be to run. It is quite an old machine (Ebac humidex 4). My elec bill did seem to be quite high last winter but i know my health is more important. thanks.

Don't know that particular model, but I think in general they spin out around 3p an hour. Doesn't sound much, but if on 24/7 will add around £60 to a quarterly bill.
Any chance of getting the landlord to do something about the damp (Environmental Health is an option, but you may end up having to move...)0 -

Have a close look at it and see if you can find a plate with any model references. It should also state somewhere how many Watts the thing uses. Once you know the wattage you can get a better idea of running cost.
It may be in the manual if you have one ?0 -
If you're renting do yourself a favour and move, or ask the landlord to fix the damp on threat of moving out. It is an ongoing environmental health issue and one which local council take seriously on rented accommodation. Personally, I'd opt for a change and move out.0
