Scottish Power Doorstep seller

Hi all, I'm new to this posting malarchy and am venturing in in the hope than someone can help me.

My grandfather has been visited by a doorstep salesmen claiming to be from scottish power today and wanting them to switch from their current provider. He was there for a few hours and eventually they signed details saying they would switch, giving bank details and also (and this is the bit I'm queerying) as they were over 70 they were told they would have to provide next of kin details.

Does anyone know if this is required for over 70s? It sounds suspicious as for one we're not even the home owners next of kin, and also it sounds like it would be against data protection laws.

We are currently trying to check out if this man was genuine and take steps to cancel anything even if he was. Made harder by it being out of office hours. But it would be useful to know even for future pruproses if this is something they're asking for over 70s.

Thankyou!

    Hi

Sounds a bit strange to be honest.

Contact Scottish Power on 0800400200 and ask them to check it out. They handle the telephone sales so technically they should be asking the same questions as a doorstep seller. If they ask for next of Kin i would say it is legit but if they don't I'd get them to check it out.

He has 7 days to cancel any contract. Never heard of NoK being required. If he feels he has been mis-sold he can ask his curent supplier to request an Erronous Transfer. This means they can regain him as a customer & will be like he hasn`t left, failing that just get them to reapply for him back
