Yorkshire Bank Problem

Hi everyone I am after a little bit of advice!
Basically I am with Yorkshire Bank and have been in the black with them for 8 years until recently when a direct debit caused my account to become overdrawn by £75 last month. The same day YB charged me £25 presumably for going overdrawn. Now I discover that they have charged me another £25 this month for the same incident.
When I got in touch with them via the call centre they said "thats how we do things".
Are YB allowed to charge twice for one discrepency? and has anyone else had any problems with this?

I wouldn't have thought so but I dont know for sure. Have you tried checking the terms and conditions for the account?
I'm sure someone else will be able to give you a definitive answer.0 -
I think what I would do in your situation is to call back and ask to speak to someone who can help you resolve the issue of both charges. Site that you have had a good record with them for 8 years, this is a one off miscalculation on your part and that in the interests of an on going good relationship you would like them to refund some of the charges please. If they refuse you can then suggest that you might want to take your business elsewhere if you can't come to an agreement. You may or may not want to go elsewhere, but at this stage I don't think that matters, it will focus the mind that you might.
To try to stop this happening again you might want to arrange an overdraft. I always run an account in the black but I do have an overdraft facility which means that if I ever slip up I am covered. My bank just charges me interest on the amount I am over for the days I am over - the last time a few years ago was just a few pence for what sounds like a similar circumstance to yours rather than a flat rate fee.0 -
One's a 'Daily Unplanned Borrowing Fee' and the other's a 'Monthly Unplanned Borrowing Fee'.

Look on the bright side though, if they'd refused your DD payment the £25 'Daily Unplanned Borrowing Fee' would have been replaced with a £35 'Unpaid Item Fee'.
The fact that they paid the DD, rather than refuse it, shows you have some 'standing' with the bank (clearly you should have with an 8 year relationship) so why not ask for an agreed overdraft facility?0
