Hi folks,
Having a little trouble here with my new sky broadband connection having cancelled my old BT broadband account. I have not used the install disc that came with sky (manually set it up .. as I did with my BT wireless router). The trouble is that the wireless worked fine for the BT setup but now I am using the new sky broadband modem and the same laptop I seem to lose connection to the net after a couple of resumes or a long period of time. THis is annoying as I seem to have to restart windows xp in order to access the web again via my wireless connection. The wireless connection shows itself as working fine showing strong signal and all that. Any ideas??? Could it be the local policies??? Any settings to play around on the router ... the sky router does not seem to have many options.
I have already tried the following....
(1) spyware Av etc
(2) Installed latest V11 drivers for intel 3945 wireless pro with software
(3) Tried to allow windows to manage wifi
(4) Changed router from WPA-PSK to WEP ...
Problem is that windows seems to lose track of how it connects to the internet.
Dunno out of ideas really ... could buy another router with more options that is known to work with 3945 wireless well. Is there a good place/forum where I can post this issue and get decent answers? As I suspect this may be a complex one.
Ta for now

You may be better off seeking help at the Sky User Forum.;)0

I would guess the hardwares is under control of the device software, put windows in control as this often resolves issues.
Control panel
network connections
right click the wireless lan icon
choose properties
look for the middle tab of three (if not 3 then you need to restart the zero config service)
in middle tab click the check box to allow windows to control the device.0 -
loaner: Tried "repair" and I assume WZC tool is letting windows manage my connection so tried that. Router connection looks ok but not tried 192.168.01 when connection drops to the net. The connection to the net seems to drop after either a period of time or after a few resumes. (I often close the laptop lid!). Looking around admin tools at network policies on IP stuff looks like a 180min time limit there?
PaulK: Think I have already tried this by letting windows control my wireless.

My Router from Sky would not stay on line, After phoning them and explaining I think it's faulty and they saying it was my extension to the computer and not there fault, they sent me a new one, it worked first time. Ask for a new one. I had no trouble when I was on Orange.0

now fixed the problem ....
Rather simple really ... just needed to update Zone Alarm as I had an older unupdated version of ZA running which was interfering with a recent win xp security update.
Just thought I/d share the fix for the sake of completeness.
