Are lower petrol prices here to stay?

Options
Petrol prices look like they are finally starting to fall - about time too. The last time this happened, only ASDA kept their promise and reduced the fuel price by 4p (it eventually went up 2p again). Tesco was on TV saying it was going to drop its price too, but they only appeared to drop it by 1p. I try and use those companies who are helping me to keep my fuel costs down.

This weekend saw unleaded down to 89.9 at ASDAs and 90.9 and many other fuel outlets including SHELL.

I hope that this is the beginning of good news regarding petrol prices and look forward to prices returning to "normal" at 84.9 and below.

Maybe by bringing this topic up and keeping it at the forefront of exposure, we might be able to get the supermakets to take note of the impact high fuel prices are having on our other spending habits.

    is the new AApetrolbusters.

unleaded petrol is anywhere between 88.9p and 96.9p round here - guess which one I go to.

The problem is the price is dependant on so many factors!

we really should do something about these rip off forecourts.
I use Tesco and when out on the road pass several daily, the price difference has been as much as 5p in an area of say 60 miles north, west and south.
I am told by the cashiers at most that the price is what the local area will stand for, for instance Thetford low wages not many garages 98.9 diesel norwich 30 miles away good wages lots of garages 93.9 . I'm sure tesco arent making a loss on the cheaper stuff , just profiteering and there hitting the people who need every little extra.
the idea going around to boycott the multi nationals like shell and bp should be reversed and we should boycott tesco , asda and the like . until the people of this country make a stand we will get ripped off. don't happen in france does it , they would bring the country to a stand still just like that.
blimey this should of gone on the vent board.

I hope they come down to! I have had to change jobs because it got so damn expensive....
  • Every Tesco garage has to do a survey on a Tuesday and Thursday they get the price of all filling stations within a 3 mile radius and send that information to Head Office who then decide depending on how much the difference is wether to change the price on the Tesco forecourt Tesco staff have NO control on how much is charged at each PFS it is totally dependant on the local market - Tesco do at the moment have the 5p per litre off promotion when you spend £50 instore.

Tesco do not actually always make a profit in their petrol stations many only just break even
i'm living in a parallel universe
  • It is a shame that there is a minimum one-off amount that has to be spent to gain a discount for the petrol. Many of the people who could most do with the reduced price, like my mother shops quite regulariy (gets her out of the house), but her grocery bill is often under 50 pounds. Maybe the clubcard points could be used as a discount as this reflects more closely the cummulative spend of individuals.

when i do my big shop we ask the checkout poerator to stop at £50 we can usually get 3 tokens sometimes 4 , and on the odd occasion i even have abottle of wine handy just to carry me over to the £50 , when i fill up £70 goes in so i save about £4 the price of the wine.

    I love Tescos 5p off
here they charge 98.9 for a litre of diesel.
Go to sheffield down the road and you will be paying 92.9 from shell/esso.
  • Just drove past Sainsbury's this morning. They are back onto 5p off a 50 pound shop. They are currently charging 90.9 for Unleaded making a net cost of 85.9. That is certainly an improvement. (You can get Nectar points too).

I am not sure whether they still do differential money off. I can remember that they used to do 1p off, 2p off, 4p off dependent on the value of the spend. Does this still apply?
