I don't know about other companies but I work for British Gas. Until very recently meter exchanges were chargeable but now it is done freely by Bgas. Be that E7 to single rate or vice versa and also Credit to Prepayment exchanges regardless of whether there is debt on the account or not. the charges uses to vary from £30-£50 dependent on your local distributor0 -
MrBlonde, what your saying is wrong, did an E9 (multi to single rate) for a BG customer last week, they were billed £55 for the job. E7 (change like for like) tends to be given to recert jobs (E12) when the customer has had the courtesy to phone in and ask for a specific appointment date/time.0

Ok , i just got my info from the Mast team and also debt, the agents told me that the jobs are all now done free. Ill take your word for it!0 -
Tulip46, how did you manage to change from E7 to E10? E10 is for use with wet heating systems(radiators), not storeage heaters.
We switched from E7 to E10 several years ago when EON was still Powergen.
We have always had storage heaters, not radiators. The whole point of being on the cheap night rate with Economy10 is because 'storage' heaters use electricity at night to store heat which is released in the daytime. The only difference between E7 and E10 is the amount of time the heaters run on cheap(er) electricity, i.e. 3 extra hours in the afternoon (if needed).0 -

I'm not sure about the afternoon boost (I was expecting it to show on one of the meters, but which?) as we're hoping to revamp our heating.
Since I posted I've managed to get eon to send me a bill (first one since October) and it was a little bit of a shock... when I calculated what I expected to be paying I hadn't taken into account a) price increase b) standing charge and c) VAT.
Does anyone know if it's possible to get a E10 tariff with no standing charge? I'm a bit cheesed off that I'm paying it, seems so 20th century!
I have asked EON the same thing, they couldn't explain why there is a standing charge for E10, but I suspect it is because they have no competition from other companies with that meter, they can charge what they like, we're stuck with them unless we change meters and they know it.
As for the afternoon boost on E10, we don't have a special switch for the afternoon, we just use the wall switch for individual heaters or the main OFF-PEAK switch to stop all of them heating up. If you are out all day and don't need the extra heat, just switch off first thing in the morning, but don't forget to switch back on for the night! If you want to see when the afternoon boost is working, have a look at the off-peak meter to see if it's running: in our case (Essex) usually from around 2pm.

Ok... I've been sitting on this one for too long!
I got hit for a £300+ underpay bill a quarter ago and they made me put my DD up to £87 a month.
This quarter, I'm a few quid in credit and they wanted to put the DD up to £106 p/m.... I talked them down to £90ish.
£106 a month? WTH??! I used to live in a flat with very similar electrical requirements, and £50 more than covered it. Ok, prices have gone up, but more than double?!
So Eon have to go. The question is... will my daytime rates be cheaper on E7 than E10? I really don't care about the supposed benefits of E10, I just want to stop getting screwed by eon, and if going to E7 will give us more of a saving, I'll definitely do it.
So... any suggestions? My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Any ideas anyone?

There are different prices, different regions and different tariffs so you might as well ask how longs a piece of string.
You'll have to call them but their call queues have been excessive all week and are likely to remain high particularly in the evening and on Saturdays so it would be best picking an early morning time to call.0 -
Mr Blonde is right. I work for British Gas... book meter exchanges 10 maybe 20 times a day...all free of charge since about 3 months ago. E7 to Single Rate.. PP to credit or Credit to PP... all freeSunny in Southampton.0

hi frivolus fay , i have been reading your posts about economy 10. have you sorted this out yet ? im also with EON and i have to say their rates are rubbish. EON's E10 tariff is not truely E10 . in the afternoon during the boost hours of 1.30 pm to 4pm its only the 'stored heat ' = underfloor heating /storage heaters and the immersion heater (E10) thats off peak, so all this time i have set my washing machine , tumble dryer etc to operate during these hours. To my shock i found out all other electric is at full price !!!!!! . when i phoned EON when i moved into the flat i was therefore misinformed. i was told that all electric is off peak during these 10 hours but clearly its not. this has been taken up further and a complaint being investigated.
after hours of research im in teh process of changing to southern which has far better rates as all the 10 hours are off peak here.
are u still with EON ?0
