Thing is Jack, you've now brought an argument from elsewhere into this thread and it was a bit of tit for tat in that you also name called.
All Martin and FM are asking for is by all means point out the relevant rule in a courteous manner and then leave it and report if the person wishes to continue with an argument. Believe me I know that is often difficult to bite your tongue and walk away but it is the best way.
Tonight I've read several posts where people are demanding that people "don't post", "who do they think they are, what do they know", "if you can't post something useful, don't post" etc. etc. This is abuse and the abuse team are the people to deal with it. Report and then walk away.
edited to add to Jack that I didn't mean you regarding the above excerpts, just random posts I have read tonight.0 -
i appreciate what you're saying edinburghlass, but it's very frustrating  when someone deliberately insults you and i personally think that everyone should be entitled at least one reply. i don't go round looking to pick fights with people, and anyone who reads my posts knows i'm always polite and friendly, but i'm fed-up of seeing some people being rude to others and just thinking they can get away with it. the offending post gets deleted and there's no comeback.
i reported the thread 5 hours ago and i can't wait for it to be deleted. i know the abuse team are busy, but i'm unhappy to let a rude insult just sit on a public forum for everyone to see for 5 hours without responding. you've read the thread and you can see how polite i was when i pointed out he was breaking the rules. if you re-read my reply to it, i think you'll see it was hardly name-calling, like i'd been subjected to. my exact words were 'another childish, rude person.' describing someone as rude and childish who intentionally and unjustifiably insults you publically, is not name-calling. how would you describe him? (i know you can't answer that in the interests of fairness).
anyway, i'm sorry for going on about it, i didn't mean to pull the thread offcourse. i just pointed it out as an example of the pitfalls of genuinely trying to help out the site. if i'd have cut and pasted martin's suggested standard reply, into that thread to begin with, what do you think would have happened? - that's right, i would have got exactly the same insulting treatment
and i could have used some far choicer language with that person and you know it
i pm'd details of a website that provides impartial information about free webhosting services to spikey so he can make a more informed choice if he does decide to take up an offer.
i admit, it was a bit cheeky of me, to mention that in my post, and it probably came across as being quite tit-for-tat. in fact, i admit, it was tit-for-tat :rotfl:but that's probably the only thing i'd do differently if the same thing happened again. sorry
EDIT: looks like the thread's just been deleted. thank goodness for that, so i've deleted my previous post from this thread0 -
I hear you Jack, believe me I hear you!
