Yorkshire Building Society

Hi, I read a post on here a while ago asking what was the best bank account for matched betting and someone mentioned the Yorkshire Building Society Basic Bank Account.

It was a bank account with no cheque book facility, no overdraft facility etc... You just got the account, a debit card and online banking.

I went in today and asked if I could set this up and was told I would have to pay £100 to set the account up!!!!

Do they mean there is an actual fee to set the account up or do they mean I must give them £100 to set the account up but the £100 is an 'opening' balance?

did you not ask when you were in the branch?
  • The Yorkshire Building Society doesn't do current accounts. I've just double checked.

Are you sure? Do you mean Yorkshire Bank?

They do a kind of current account...the Cash Transactor. YBS desciribe it as "really more like a bank account than a savings account".

However, whilst it offers DD's, SO's & a link card, it does not offer a debit card or cheque book.

The lack of debit card will mean it's a non-starter for matched betting.

EDIT: OP: The £100 is just an 'activation' sum, and can be withdrawn once the account is up and running (not that it matters now though?).

I think it's the Yorkshire/Clydesdale Bank Readycash Account you mean.
Yorkshire Bank & Yorkshire Building Society are commonly confused.

This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com
