I've realised that I probably don't want a computer reading my audio books, but I've managed to find

For more modern (but Sci-fi/Fantasy) ebooks go to https://www.baen.com and look up the free library.

For audio books try https://www.podiobooks.com

That's the mobile version of manybooks.net I mentioned upthread. The full site offer a wider range of formats for each book, but if you're paying through the nose for mobile data, the mobile site looks handy.

I get my eBooks from http://www.floodle.net/ there are some good books there and they're free.

Just blagged my work appraisal wording using one!

They also search for miss-spellings on eBay....

I don't care about the variety of accents because the reading is good enough for me to benefit and they are FREE. Librivox is ambitious to get some key works on which if or when done would save me tonnes of money and they are intelligent educated readers which helps for these readings.
I agree that the site takes time but I subscribe in Itunes and download a book or one chapter at a time to get a book in and download later.
Some things are worth the aggro and Librivox is IMHO.:money:

On a related note, Project Gutenberg now provides books in EPUB format.
