Ford Mondeo fuel consumption question...
I have a 56 plate 2.0 litre TDCI Ford Mondeo Ghia.
I normally average 52 miles per gallon although it used to be 54; not sure why it has dropped
, but with the hot weather recently the missus likes her air conditioning and is dropping to just above 51 mpg at the moment.
Does anyone else on here own the same car, and what mpg do you get?
These readings are taken from the trip computer.
Also, does anyone have any experiences of the various additives that can be brought from motor factors and added to the fuel tank? Am due to drive to Wales on holiday for a week, and envisage quite a bit of driving (just love the scenery).

Check your tyre pressures.
Where are u filling it up? Try some decent diesel if using supermarket brand.
Short runs? Give it a bit of a blast on the open road.0 -
I guess it could be heavier use of air con., a change in the route your driving is more likely.
I enjoy around a 5% to 7% improvement in fuel consumption using Millers Diesel Sport 4 additive in any ones diesel fuel, even Sainsbury's. It basically improves the fuel quality to more or less match the likes of BP Ultimate Diesel and Shell V-Power.0 -
HINTZA - I checked the tyre pressures, they are correct. I am using ASDA fule because it is the cheapest. That mpg result is both around town and on long(er) drives.
ADRIANHI - In that case would you recommend the additive? How much is it?0 -

In terms of cost it adds about 2.5p per litre to the cost of fuelling but if your saving 6.5p (about 5%) or more your winning by 4p or more per litre. A bottle costs around £11 to £13, it is on the shelf in Halfords now, I got mine here

which in case the link gets deleted is netparts.co.uk search on Millers and you'll see Diesel Sport 4 in the list.
There is a measuring spout, 3 full measures for 60L of fuel which is about the size of most Mondeo class car fuel tanks.
I've been using it for over a year and 17,000 miles in my car.0 -

59.7 MPG on Asdas finest diesel. No additives. Whacking on the aircon drops it by 2-3MPG. 04 plate 2L TDCi 130.0 -
i think thats good with the air con on
conor that loooks even better
my poor little astra only do's 39.7 and 40.3 with air con offf  using asda stuff(i think i got the lemon )it's a astra sports hatch sri 1.9cdTI (150)there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
Driving works pools cars 4 days a week (3 2.0 TDCI 130 Mondeos) I always seem to average around 55mpg, and that is with thrashing the living hell out of them (as poeple are want to do with other cars!)0

I've definitely squeezed a bit more out of my fuel with your tips from another thread, but I'm not getting near your figures. It must come down the the nature of your driving route and perhaps your greater experience as a HGV driver (if I remember rightly).0 -
The aircon definatly hammers the fuel consumtion, often by up to 7 or 8%. I had a friend with a company car that had to have some shared usage. He used to disable the aircon when anyone else had the car as he new it cost him heavily. (tight !!!!):p
My Renault diesel is returning the best fuel comsumption figures it ever has, but I am driving as smoothly as possible and drive with the windows closed, the aircon off but the blowers on. Certainly up on the winter figures on similar routage:money:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

I see mine drop about 10% over winter compared to spring / summer figures.
For all this talk of air con affecting MPG, I just don't see it happening to my current or previous car. Both of these cars had climate control aka automatic air conditioning though.0
