You'll probably lose everything in Documents & Settings.

Personally, I don't think any of those programs will remove your problem.

You do need to follow the Malware Removal thread and to produce a Hijack This report.

If it all becomes too much, there is an alternative method of starting your computer using an alternate operating system and using that to retrieve your important imformation before re-installing Windows.

Not ususally, since you're reinstalling over the top, but I'd always recommend backing up anything you don't want to lose whether you know you have a problem or not.

Bit of a misnomer. If you're "repairing" windows it will install only the windows components leaving files and settings intact. If you're "reinstalling" windows then you definitely will lose ALL files and settings.

Don't listen to the people telling you to format - it's very, very savable.

    Get Spybot Search and Destroy
    Get Lavasoft Adaware
    Get A Squared Free

Run the above programs, and odds are your pc will be ok again - if not, get Hijack This - and post your log file here.

    Cheers,

    Here here! :T
Sometimes, problems with PC's are not as complicated as they seem. Your biggest issue at the moment is not being able to access internet properly to be able to download the softwares. I agree completely about getting a USB Data Storage thing, they're quite cheap now, well, much cheaper than binning the PC & getting a new one! Get about a 4Gb one so you can perhaps use someone elses PC to download the progs you'll need, you can also download all your important docs on to it.

Once you get sorted why don't you password the access of the computer - that would stop them using it.

I would imagine they are using it with their permission, unless they are breaking into their house.

If you can't do that, why not just reinstall Windows which will remove everything?

    Close enough for me.

To use spybot. Which on it's own is inefficient and flaky at best, however, when used WITH adaware and A squared (which removes Malware as well as adware). Is a decent bet.
