I moved into my house in 2005 and at the same time moved to EDF energy. During that time I have had several problems with gas bills being incorrect due to a replaced meter. I have also had my gas meter read less than four months ago by the engineer. Yesterday I got a review letter saying they wanted to pay me back over £700 - I didn't think this could be right (with rising gas prices etc) so rang them today with another updated meter reading. They are now saying they haven't had a meter reading since 2005 and I owe them £5,000!!!! Please can anyone advise me what to do?

Have you actually been paying them anything in the last three years? £5000 over 3 years seems an awful lot. Surely even if they hadn't actually read the meter they would have been billing you on estimates. Unless you have excessive usage then It's pretty certain to be an error on their part."Whatever happened to string?"0
