How do i 'rename' a link to shorten it?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but after posting a really long link in the Ebay section that didn't come out properly, I thought I ought to learn.
If i want to post a link, how do I call it something, rather than it showing up as it actually looks when you copy it?
As when people say something like "have a look HERE" and they've made the word 'here' into the actual link you click on.
Hope that makes sense ;)
