Ten months and only £1000 for my wedding venue and food. How can I do it?

Maybe you both need to sit down & write down exactly who's saving how much, which bit of family is helping by buying what things, what you are having in the way of reception and the price of every single thing so you can see the exact extent of what your wedding will cost and then think again about blowing 2/3 of the budget on a "big band". If he is in that field, surely he has contacts who can rent out rehearsal rooms cheaper, or the band would do it for less as it's "trade"?

I definitely need to do some sitting down and some serious £ spreadsheet and guestlist editing, yes.

You know????!!! I really dont know why its left up to the OP to sort out the money aspect. Very worrying indeed. Sporadic earnings or not do not make excuses for him or you will set a pattern for the marriage! I see from your siggy you have a lot to work through with your debts. Please think all of this through. I mean this well.

booze- but it really is cheap in France! We will choose some that will be brought over by parents, then go get it nearer the time. I'm looking for super-in-advance ferry special offers soon.....!

I won't comment on the allocation of the budget...other's already have :o

However, I can help you with the super cheap ferry crossing....you can get it for free :D

Have a look at majestic calais.

If you pre-order, they pay your crossing for you.

Many of the other large booze sheds do the same thing. You need to pre-order a minimum amount, but £200 normally covers it. IIRC, if you stretch to £400 (if family are helping out) you can get a flexi 5 day return or a tunnel crossing rather than a ferry day trip.

I know the £ to Euro rate is not great at the moment, but look at their special offers. Normally I can find a nice known label for about 1/3 of the price in tesco uk. However, you must pre-order to make sure they have enough in stock (and to get the crossing too)

What a top tip. I will certainly look at that! Then we can get the booze from Tesco to taste... and buy more from Calais...... wicked.

Only just skimmed through the replies so sorry if im repeating or have missed anything!
Its just over £100 to get married in a registry office (£30 each for the bans and £40 something for the ceremony) however if you get married at a venue its £288 for the registrar before the fee for the venue.
Also have you considered the corkage on the alcohol? Sometimes its actually cheaper to purchase their own house wine!

And I've just found crossings for £20 here on day-tripper

because I can't spend £400... if each bottle is about £2 thats 200 bottles of wine... hang on.. crumbs perhaps thats about right!!! Well it will be 100 bottles maybe and some loss-leading fruit juices and french squash...

Don't forget that depending on where your venue is some people may be driving and not drink?

I am SERIOUSLY considering registry office then closeby large pub that will accommodate the band. Then all food and drink problems are solved, I can put a finite amount of money behind the bar in the form of a barrel of beer and a fine time will be had by all.:T

Ah yes thats why we want it near public transport- nonetheless I know a lot of people who don't drink anyway- but fruit juice is not expensive, we can get that here. Thanks for mentioning though!
