How about an accurate way of measuring pain? (i.e. are they just saying ouch because they're a wuss, or does it genuinely hurt?).

Or you could just google it, then look on one of the web pages that comes up, like this one:

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Often faculty members at your university are the best people to advise students on this kind of thing. For most dissertations, you need to find a faculty member willing to supervise you, so you're going to have to talk to someone anyway! Did you have any lecturers whose subjects you particularly enjoyed, or who you personally got on well with? Do you have an academic adviser? These would all be good places to start.
  • Thanks guys I like all of them. I just have no idea so keep um coming all very thought prevoking. Ytaya I have a dissertation supervisor who is pants had an email from her saying ' im off now until october will arange to meet then and descuss' the thing is due to be handed in Feb. She is so wet but there you go its what iv got. Iv got a personal tutor but again off alllll summer so no good until october.

What about the control or even prevention of diabetes in obese people? i.e. dealing with issues such as injections, impotence, amputation.

Training, skills and knowledge needed for first class dementia care on general hospital wards for demented patients admitted because of a physical illness - 20 years ago it was acceptable to tie demented patients to the bed to stop them wandering.
Or communication skills needed to nurse, help and support the deafened and profoundly deaf on general wards. I get sick of nurses shouting at my poor old dad because he's deaf, doesn't work of course - if he can't hear it the volume is immaterial.

  • Thanks these are all so good. As I would like to do something that makes a diffrence Like the communication with the deaf. And Errata your so right we are guilty of just shouting DO YOU WANT SOMETHING FOR YOUR BOWELS. even though we know better, but we dont do it. Its so fustrating on the wards watching trained nurses some of the time. I oftern wonder if they could step back and look at what they do if they to would cringe.

You're very welcome. I'm also deaf and wear aids. I had an interesting conversation with a nurse, and halfway through I told her I was deaf. Her response was ' Oh sorry, I can't do sign language'. Neither can I nor can most older people who've become deaf as part of the ageing process. So being able to communicate effectively with hard of hearing older people doesn't mean learning sign language but a whole different skills set. Good luck.

Maybe a thesis or a sample program of a method to train nurses, in communicating with people that have different disabilities.
