Lost Standing Order

Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can give me a bit of advice...
My mum has her rent paid via Standing Order on the 14th of each month, which has all gone well for the past year. However, the June payment seems to have gone astray. She was on holiday (in this country), and she realised that my dad's wages had not been paid into the bank on time, so the rent payment had been returned. She immediately transferred the money from another account and had the bank repay the amount. This all happened on the 16th, which was the Monday.
She has this all on her statement - the money going out, being returned, and going back out again.
The beneficiary appears not to received the second amount. Mum spoke to her branch who were no help whatsoever, so phoned instead. They put a trace on the money to see if they could find it - they said there is no sign, and as far as they can see it went where it was supposed to go. They also said they tried to talk to the beneficiaries bank, but because of the Data Protection Act they wouldn't speak to them.
Both parties have now written a letter to say that the banks could talk to each other about the matter. Now it's a matter of waiting (again!).
If you've made it this far, thanks for listening. My question is - is there anything else my mum can do if the talking banks come up with nothing? Whose responsibility is it to reimburse?
Thanks in advance.

A number of banks will re-send the standing order once funds are in the account. It uses exactly the same sort code and account number and its totally automatic.
The trace shows it went to the correct bank account (whcih you would expect with an automated transfer like a standing order) so my bet it that the landlord is either telling porkies or hasnt spotted it on the statement arriving later than normal.Whose responsibility is it to reimburse?
The landlord is the only one that can re-imburse.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
The same thing happened to me (and a few others). I pay subs to my sports team by mandate every month and the money came out for a couple of months but didn't go into the bank account I had been paying into. I've been paying that mandate for 18months so there was nothing wrong with the bank details. Both bank accounts are looking into it but I have heard nothing back yet.0

Ask the bank to confirm the exact details that the money was sent to. Compare the two payments, ie Standing Order and payment sent. If the normal payment has a reference number and the payment didn't then that is why the landlady did not notice. This is providing the bank account and sort code of both the standing Order and "missing" the payment sent are an exact match.0

You need to ask your bank to check their RP113 report for the sortcode your mum has on her account. Thiis will show where the funds have gone to. The branch also need to get in contact with the Direct Debit return unpaid team at the processing centre used by the sortcode.
Tbh the branch may not know much of this as it is something usually done back office so to speak. If she asks them to send of a complex query to the complaints team they will know all this information and hopefully resolve. One other point to remember is she can ask for a trace on this payment and her bank have to oblige. Rather than saying it looks like it has gone to where it was meant to this is more official and useful to prove to the beneficiaries bank.

But which bank is it - if its the one i work for i can give you a much more accurate response and telephone numbers to call yourself.0
