Been buying and selling property for over 30 years just to make money mainly.

Have seen the rental market from both sides including being a victim of a Rachman-like LL in the late 60's.

Have lived in council and HA property once or twice, have lived abroad and seen another side to renting/letting. Have also lived in various parts of the UK including big cities and way out in the sticks remote properties.

Currently own xx amount of properties which are let out plus a share in a few others, 90% of which are unencumbered (not going to post on here exact amount) I have been through a few corrections in the market, and come out the other side on top, mainly due to keeping an eye on the market and local trends etc etc and being very careful where to buy and when.

Have renovated quite a few properties way before it became the trendy thing to do, and also bought and let places years before the the letters BT and L were strung together.

So, in short I have no written qualifications as such, but my many years of seeing the housing market in all it's wild forms over the years gives me vast experience that I believe you just can't buy or study for.

You sound like a knowledgeable chap - any tips?

chickmug You show me yours and I'll show you mine lol
Have no experience on paper but have been there and done that as it were.
You said you were nosey which is fair enough so can I be nosey too lol what are your credentials and what do you think that you can bring to the others on this site. No offence or animosity meant in any way, just so we are clear about things.

    Here's mine and don't forget yours:D

30 + Years in property career. Included new build, affordable housing with LA's & HA's, commercial, just cut down to part time with view to full retirement very soon.

Hooked on this forum but put off when some posters have really insulted ALL EA's. Not ALL are the same and for the record I can't stand most of them either. If insults are flying I don't follow the thread which is a shame because there are times where I have tried very hard to help people fight their corner. Especially on unfair EA contracts and the such. At times the help doesn't even get a thank you even after spedning time looking up the relevant legislation to quote. But there you go!!!

Don't post that frequently, but have worked in housing for the last 8 years. Initially as a Housing Officer for a sheltered housing association for a year and a half. When I got bored of that, became a Housing Advisor for the local authority Homeless Persons Unit. Not long back from maternity leave, I got promoted to being a Homeless Assessment Officer in the same HPU.

Moved to London and worked as an Assessment Officer for a number of local authorities and then switched sides and now work as a Housing Advisor for a voluntary sector housing advice service. So represent clients on a wide variety of issues ranging from disrepair, rent and mortgage arrears (including representation at possession hearings), landlord harassment and eviction, homeless applications and reviews and security works to properties of sufferers of domestic violence. So quite a mixed bag!!

I never realised though how little I knew until I started doing the job I do now. Before I thought I knew so much about housing issues, how wrong I was!

I'm a university law lecturer, teaching my little darlings the ins and outs of criminal law and equity & trusts. I'm also a subject editor for ILEX so if anyone's doing the legal exec course, they might be reading material I've written. I've taught wills in the past. So problems involving my areas of expertise occasionally crop up on the forum. I didn't practice law for long, and it wasn't in the UK, so the advice I give tends to be academic rathr than practical. But also, lawyers have a particular way of thinking and analysing problems, and this can sometimes be helpful when looking at the issues a poster is facing and at what they might be able to do about them.

At a personal level, I'm qualified by experience: lots of houses bought and sold, very little profit made, have been in serious negative equity on two occasions, and currently am an accidental STR-er, after a major relocation. So I'm interested in the housing market for that reason. And I'm fascinated by houses. I can remember and probably draw floor plans not only for every house we've ever lived in or rented, but for the majority of the houses I've viewed and not bought.
