Does this sound right?? (gas usage)
I recently had a gas bill from EDF (yes, I am going to be switching from them today!), saying I was £178.15 in credit, and theyd be refunding me.
I just got the gas bill out, and it looks a bit odd to me. It says that between 19 Feb and 21 Jun, I used 26 units of gas in total. That can't be right can it? I can't put my hands on a previous bill right now, so can anyone help? Should I contact them?

Read your meter and see how much difference there is between this and the final figure on your bill. This will tell you whether you owe them anything.
If the 26 units is correct and was based on a meter reading, then you probably had an estimated reading before and it was over-estimated.
If you want to keep track of your usage and control of your energy bills you need to read your meter and give your supplier the readings regularly. That way you both know how much the bill should be!0 -
Perhaps your previous reading was estimated and was too high? If the latest reading was then a real one, it would then make it appear that you hadn't used very much, IYSWIM?
Edit: Beat me to it!0 -
Is the reading they used on 21 june an actual read, if so and you now take a reading and it ties up roughly with that reading (you will have to guess your consumption in the month since 21 june) then I think you will be OK and your refund will be true.I recently had a gas bill from EDF (yes, I am going to be switching from them today!), saying I was £178.15 in credit, and theyd be refunding me.

One reason for this is that there may have been a series of overestimated previous bills, ie you have been paying too much on previous bills and you are now getting the pay back.
Edit Both of you beat me to it!! But at least the advice was the same.0 -
Ahhh, of course, thanks all, that makes sense!
I did have a couple of estimated bills prior to this, and yes, the final reading is an actual one. Phew! I'll definitely make sure I keep on top of that in future. If you have good thoughts, they'll shine out of your face like sunbeams & you'll always look lovely.0
