Argos had one at around £50 a while ago, Comet have a good range. The only thing to watch out for is the first few times you use it, mind your hands, the steam shoots out of these ;D Once you're used to it, it's OK ;D

After months of deliberation - and wading through reviews - I was still confused, but eventually decided to purchase a TEFAL EXPRESS (cost me just over 100 pounds) ... should have bought it ages ago!!!

Clothes are never 'too dry' any more; the steam cuts through any creases wonderfully.

I also used to iron clothes on the reverse side, allow them to cool, and then 'turn through' before steaming (or ironing through a pressing cloth) in order to ensure no wrinkles and no shine - WHAT AN IDIOT! Now I iron one side only, and the steam ensures that there are no shiny patches.

The iron is also great for steaming (by holding the iron vertically) jumpers, and tops that have various folds/layers of material (no more going through swathes of fabric, a section at a time). Even my daughter was impressed (though not sufficiently to take over the ironing, but I live in hope!).

The only drawback is that the water droplets fall onto the kitchen floor, so mopping up is necessary after each session (and when you fold your board back to its storage position, any water runs down and gathers into the 'tip' of the ironing board).

One final recommendation - go for an iron with a short heat-up time (this model takes two minutes).

And don't just buy one as a present ... treat yourself, 'cos it saves you HOURS!
    If it's cheap, I'm cheerful!

Suzy_Babe, I couldn't agree more ;D Though I do all my ironing by steaming it, I threw the ironing board away months ago so no wet floors for me ;D

  • I bought a Tefal steam generator iron a few months ago and I love it! It was about £70 (reduced from £100 in Currys). Can't remember the exact model but it is a super-duper bells and whistles one. It's so quick and has saved me loads of time. It doesn't drip either. The only problem is that it's quite noisy and the other half complains when I am ironing and watching telly that he can't hear the telly. I would recommend a steam generator iron to anyone who has a large volume of ironing to do.
  • Again a good item, easy to use and cuts the time taken to at least half, clothes look neater and better pressed.Dont need to use the iron board either if you dont want to.Mines a Tefal.
my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!
  • I too have a Tefal - Pro Express (Purple one with detachable water holder thingi) - Best thing ever. I never have water droplets on the floor or anything. You do need to flush it out now and again to keep it clean - it is the best iron ever - I could never go back, if it breaks I am going to get another!
