Samsung ML-1710 Printer Problem

Hi
My toner ran our a few months ago and I didn't replace it.
I'm trying to use the printer again but it won't print and all I get is an error message.
I'm reluctant to refill/replace the toner if the printer is cream crackered. Is there a way of checking the printer is working with out refilling/replacing the toner? Any advice on where to purchase ink to refill?

If it worked fine until the toner ran out, and now doesn't work without toner, it's rather more likely than anything else that it's just out of toner!
Cheap source for toner for Samsung printers is https://www.cartridgeco.co.uk. Mine (ML-4500) is relatively easy to refill although it does involve some unscrewing.0
