Our company sold cakes and biscuits in our rest room (not the American kind!) Most cakes were made at home and brought in, but someone went round to the local bakery and a few other small shops, and they gave away a dozen muffins, some jam tarts and other bits and pieces. I was really surprised! It would be a good ploy if you ever found yourself homeless!

This was just done on the spur of the moment, but most companies would find it hard to turn down the request of a small donation if they know it's genuine and they get a bit of publicity out of it. Are you making any posters or leaftlets to let people know about the event? Could you offer to mention the donating companies on them, or make up some signs: "Donated by ..........."?

    Good luck...
