Can anyone please advise what sight-seeing and touristy things there are to do in Geneva, and if 2 nights there would be enough?
Thanks in advance

Have a look at this website:

Without knowing your interests it's hard to make recommendations on what to see and do but this site will give you some ideas.
We have stayed in Geneva (and other parts of Switzerland) many times and 2 nights would barely allow you to scratch the surface, longer would be better!
Incidentally, when staying in any Geneva hotel you are given a free transport pass which covers the whole canton of Geneva, for use on trams, bus, train and water taxis. You can get the Unireso map from Tourist Offices which shows the routes you can use. It's a real money saver."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
When you arrive at Geneva Airport you can pick up a free ticket for transport into the city in the baggage hall, the machine is just to the right of the information stand and is valid for 80 minutes from issue. If you have time, take a train along the north shore of Lake Geneva and vist Lausanne or my favourite Montreaux, which was beautiful. I am a big fan of the lake steamers which can be found right across the laek, you could even visit Evian, if you seeing the source of all those plastic bottles is worth it!0

Geneva - buy watches, eat cheese and look at the lake. And err.. well, that's about it really. A nice city but two nights should be more than enough. There are far prettier and more interesting places in Switzerland.0

I hope you are joking! Yes, all those aspects are very pleasant, but there is a lot more to it than that.0 -
last time we were there we wandered into this place. i'd never heard of the model but it was amazing to see with every building in great detail and about 5-6 meters across!
"Maison Tavel (Tavel House)
The one-towered Tavel House is named after the noble Tavel family, who lived here in the 14th century. Today a museum, it provides an insight into the day-to-day lives of Genevois from the 14th to 19th centuries. The attic houses the Magnin Maquette of 1896, a huge relief model of Geneva before 1850, with its city walls still in place.
Rue du Puits-Saint-Pierre 6

Maybe I was a little flippant - I spent three years of travelling there every month. Most of my time outside work was spent in the Swissotel Metropole bar!Voyager2002 wrote: »I hope you are joking! Yes, all those aspects are very pleasant, but there is a lot more to it than that.
The old town is very interesting and, as previously indicated, a great place to eat cheese and buy watches. A boat trip on the lake is a must - but take the public transport CGN or Mouettes Genevoises boats and go to not the tourist ones.0 -
I went in March so spent a day at the motorshow and a some time just out of Geneva at Versoix for the festival of chocolate.
When in Geneva we were down by the lake, by day and night to the Jet D'Eau. The flower clock, looking around the shops, out for cheese fondue, up the beautiful old town, cathedral, reformation wall, UN building, Red Cross museum, botanical gardens, people watching on a Sunday as the locals go down to the lake for a walk.
It was a lovely break, quite expensive for some drinks at times but we managed to eat well on the menu of the day.
Local fish from the lake are often on the specials board.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
Cheesy mike, I'm with you. 2 nights stay in Geneva is more than enough time to see the city sites even allowing for chill out time down by the lake!
Definitely worth using local transport to see surrounding countryside0 -
I'd recommend doing a search on Venere - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
PM me if you want a 4% discount code.
I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere (also check out hotelscomparison.com), as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.
Hope that helps
PS - I'm not connected to this website in any way, and I don't gain anything from this post, other than being annoying. I also found the discount code on another forum. This space has been intentionally left blank0
