I can help you with the good/bad parts of LA as I was born and raised there - please PM me if you need to. The answers would be too long xx0 -
As said previously, I am planning a similar trip for my honeymoon in five weeks. In the past year I have spent time in NY, St Louis and Chicago and always felt safe. My fiancee has never been to the US and is a little nervous so am after some advice to make her happy, so that we can go back again!
Heres my plan -
All the hotels were booked after researching on Tripadvisor. I need advice on a good hotel in LA for the last five days, though on a tight budget. I am tempted by a Hojo in Reseda. Good area? Too far from beach etc?
Opinions on the plan above? I get bored easily and want to see everything, but am aware that there is a lot to do there in a short space of time!
One other thing, i am slowly getting into photography and have found some good spots via google maps (griffith obs, baker beach, Buena Vista) but does anyone know of any good places for views of the cities, skylines etc?0 -

2 hours San Fran to Monterey aquirium seems VERY optomistic & you could easily spend most/all of the day there - and 5 hours Monterey - LA (assuming that you are going on Highway 1 - you ARE going on Highway 1, aren't you ??????) is way, way underestimated. The road from Monterey South is comparatively VERY slow, for quite a long way.0 -
We're going to LA and San Diego in Feb. Originally we were just going to San Diego but with flights from zoom going under we're now going to LA aswell. We're planning on doing 3 nights in LA, and 7 in San Diego. Anyone got any suggestions or feedback? I presume if we book a car from the UK the insurance would be good enough or am I better going through the US sites?
We'll be staying at Universal Studios hilton for the LA trip and in the Gaslamp quarter for San Diego. I'd love to hear if theres anything worth stopping at on the way down from LA to SD as it would break the drive up a bit.
1st day - Arrival, probably tired so won't do too much but universal citywalk
2nd day - Universal Studios
3rd day - tour of LA and stars homes, then around hollywood for a bit
4th day - Hire a rental car for the day, drive down to San Diego, can anyone recommend any detours for a bit of sightseeing on the way? I've had a look but can't see any national parks on the way but would be nice to do something as we're not in a hurray.
5th day - san diego zooo
6th day - shopping
7th day - sea world
8th day - balboa park
9th day - boat trip out to sea
10th day - rental car down to safari park
11th day - drive back to LA to fly back
