I used my card in Sainsburys was the last place, a round a month and a half ago and I have heard people tell me they have had money taken from there card after using Sainsburys and it has been in the papers that they sell you card details abroad!

You have really got me thinking! For the last 2 days I have been getting a telephone call from the same number. When I ring it back, Im told that the company is Sainsburys. About 2 hours ago I went into my egg card account online and there is a transaction for "Bank of Montreul, Canada" for £51.00. I've called egg and they have another transaction pending for £42.83 CASH!!! I've never set foot in Canada. I also havent used this particular card for a whole month. How on earth do they get cash when they dont have the pin number?

Worst case scenario is I've lost £100. I check my bank accounts and credit card accounts daily and am extra careful where i use my cards!
  • I was the victim of fraud to the tune of £500. I contacted my banks (Lloyds) fraud department. They took some details, transaction details etc...and then immediately credited the money to my account.

They sent me some forms to fill in (had to do this within 28 days or they'd take the money back) which i duly did.

I've since heard nothing but am intriuged to know who/how i was defrauded

IMHO the banks are sadly lacking with any thought for the victim (YOU)!.

It's imperative that you know how fraud was committed on your acccount.

For example if they cloned your card and PINched your PIN. You might use the same PIN for more than one card. Your PIN could have been compromised and you'd never know. You may even consider opting for Chip & Signature Cards (No Card Holder Liability).

If they used your Card Details, they've got quite a lot of information about you already. Your name, address etc. This could allow fraudsters to take out further cards in you name, or even move you to a new (bogus) address without you ever knowing. and doing an awful lot of damage. This is easy to deter click here.

The point I'm making is surely that once your card issuer knows how the fraud was perpetrated they should tell you soonest. For examle was the fradulent transaction authenticated by a PIN, Signature or were your Card Details used. (Banks should be able to establish this almost instantly these days). By informing you soonest, you can take the appropriate actions to protect yourself.

Oh yeah. Report it to the Police.

In April this year my OH`s Chip and Pin Credit Card was cloned, They withdrew a total of £1,700 in four separate transactions over a period of 2 weeks, from Barclys bank ATM cash machines in Cambridgeshire.while my husband was in another part of the country and had the original card safe and sound at home.He has never given or wrote his pin down, or been negligent in any way, but the credit card company are saying that it is "not possible to clone a embedded chip in a chip and pin card." Also they cannot understand how the fraudsters would have the pin unless my husband gave it to them or did the transactions himself..They have said in a very delicate way that my husband and/or myself are liars and thieves, and their investigation shows the original card was used so we have to pay this fraudulent debt.We are obviously fighting this. But i thought that the banking code says that if you have not been negligent then you dont have to pay. The police were informed (crime no given) by ourselves on the advice of the credit card company, but we have recently found that the police have had no contact from this company, and laughed when we told them that this company "cannot understand how the fraudsters aquired the pin" he procceded to say that this type of crime is happening regulary and to continue to fight them.. If you have had the same type of thing happen to you i would be very interested in hearing your story. Or if you were lucky enough to have the credit card company believe you and wipe the fraudulent debt from your account. Just one more thing, if the transactions had occured abroad i believe the credit card company would be less resistant to pay out.

My husband had his card cloned last week along with at least 60 people in the same village we live in. The transaction was in Canada and we can prove that he was in the UK on that day. I'm really intrigued as to how they can get cash from an ATM. Luckily the amount is £51.90 so it wont be the end of the world if we dont get it back but its annoying all the same.

It appears that a dodgy individual employed at the Shell garage in our village is responsible and the police are collating a log of all the victims. Needless to say, it will be cash for petrol from now on.

Im wondering if they have some sort of minature camera filming customers as they put their pin number into the machine. I always cover one had with the other when putting my number in and also make sure Im not being overlooked.

I think the bank may have stopped the card on the day of the transaction. I didnt discover it until two days later. My husband then tried to use his card and it was rejected. They said that there was another transaction pending but this has not gone through luckily.

Ive never had anything like this happen before and cant wait to here what they have to say after investigation.

Sorry to learn of your husbands experience, but this is very, very common.

Would you be so kind to inform us of the location. This may alert other forum readers to check their Statements or change to Chip & Signature Credit Cards.

More than likely you wont hear anything after the investigation.
