Kaupthing Edge / Skipton Building Society

Like many other MSErs, Mrs Codger and I like to (need to) keep a close watch on our ten bob ISAs and half a crown's worth of savings.
Also, I guess, like many others, we LOATHE the hassle which some institutions seem to delight in when it comes to opening new accounts.
(Most recently, the Coventry Building Society, which took paranoia to uncharted new heights: our application had to be signed by "a person of substance" like a schoolteacher, magistrate, doctor, or, er, um, publican. We got the feeling Coventry would later have asked a magistrate to authenticate the teacher and a teacher to authenticate the publican. So no: goodbye Coventry BS.)
Step forward KAUPTHING EDGE:
Day 1: apply online to open a new savings account
Day 2: email received to confirm account opening
Day 3 morning: snail mail letter received with account details and password etc
Day 3 afternoon: Bank transfer initiated
Day 7: Savings all safely in Kaupthing Edge account and earning interest.
Compared with the absolute NIGHTMARE we experienced some years back when dealing with the then new, but now utterly discredited, ING, Kaupthing Edge was absolutely brilliant. (And, yes, it's a British bank too, despite the crazy name.)
