I need to purchase a laptop primarily for AutoCAD (2d drawings mainly), for work and college purposes. I would like to use it as my main computer so fuctionality is key although I am not concearned with hard drive storage as I can use external hard drives when at home. I have a budjet of around £400 - £500 pounds (I know not much). I have been drawn towards the thinkpad t61 available on ebay second hand for around this price. Primarily because of its price and performance but also because the warrantee follows the computer for 3 years which is important as this is a substantial amount of money for myself. Am I looking at the right laptop? the new budget laptops listed elsewhere on the MSE site in my price range do not appear cut out for AutoCAD 2007. Any advice would be greatfully recieved. Thanks.

Any particular reason you're favouring a laptop? You could build a meaty desktop for £500 that'll give you much more power than you would get with a laptop and will be more comfortable to use.0

My son uses Autocad on desktop's, I will ask his advice but as a family I build our own pc's, to a high spec so don't know the min. requirements, if you want more info PM me.0

Hi thanks for your help. The reason I would like a laptop is because I spend a lot of time away from my desktop as I live with my parents (unable to get on the housing ladder but that's another post) and travel frequently between my girlfriends, work, college etc. I have been using remote desktop to access work on my home pc but I need to use AutoCAD more often than not so a laptop it is.0
