We have recently moved house. We presently have a large gas effect fire and would like to replace it...we always wanteda log burning stove. The only problme is we don't have a chimney just a flue that goes straight out of the wwall behind the fire ( sorry, not very technical i know!) Can anyone please advise what our options are to replace this fire?

I don't know that your old gas flue would be high enough to vent emissions out. The best advice would be from a local supplier. Do you live in a smokeless zone or not? Wood can be burned in a smokeless zone if the stove has an Exemption Certificate. There's a list of Exempt stoves here: http://www.uksmokecontrolareas.co.uk/appliances.php?country=e.
Sorry can't be of more help.No longer half of Optimisticpair

You need a chimney or vertical outside flue. It's the hot flue gases rising in the flue that gives the draught that you need to draw air through the appliance.0
