Loads of cheap conditioner and a nitty gritty comb is the best way to deal with nits IME. Highly recommended even if you have to pay for one.0

Just another endorsement for the NGNC -- my kids are forever picking nits up from school. We lost our NGNC and had to use the plastic Bugbuster combs, and they didn't work half as well. When I got the replacement nitty gritty comb I couldn't believe how much more stuff it got out. The Bugbuster *method* is the best though (loads of conditioner, two passes round the head, comb on days 1, 5, 9 and 13, all gone!).Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.0
