Resorts near to Barcelona help needed

I have found a website that would appear to do mega cheap deals to Spain. The only problem seems to be that they only fly to Barcelona! I found a great deal on this website but the hotel was 70km from the airport  Transfers were about £35 pp - that bit doesn't bother me to much, it's more the time it's going to take - I don't want to spend half my holiday sitting on a coach!!

So does anyone know which resorts in Spain are near(ish) to Barcelona please?

Have you thought about consulting google maps? Have you checked the distance of the airport from Barcelona? Often cheap flights can name a city but in actual fact can be quite a distance from that city to start off with.

...with Barcelona being a classic example of this. Many flights are actually to Reus which is a good 50km down the coast to south of Barcelona.

Don't be so shocked. It's far from unusual with city airports.
Just look at how far Heathrow and Gatwick actually are from London!
And I think it's Oslo airport (if my memory serves me right) that is 35miles from Oslo.
Belfast International is 17 miles from the city.

Barcelona city is served by 2 major airports, one of which is Reus. If anything, that should help you with your resort search. ;) Just be sure which airport you are flying in to.

Lloret is closer to Girona than Barcelona - it's almost 100km from Barcelona airport to Lloret.

OP - can you find the airport code of the airport they use - there are 3 main airports in the Barcelona region:
    • Barcelona (BCN)
    • Reus (REU)
    • Girona (GRO)
BCN is the main airport, used by the major airlines and some budget/charter airlines (e.g. EasyJet, bmiBaby). REU and GRO are smaller airports used mainly by budget airlines. Ryanair, for example, does not fly to BCN but uses the name "Barcelona" for both REU and GRO.

It's hard to advise on a resort without knowing for sure which airport you will be using.

If you're flying to Reus, Tarragona is a lovely town, Sitges is lovely (but can be pricey), Cambrils is a gorgeous fishing village. If you want cheap and cheerful, Salou is very close (and I think has a train station with trains to Barcelona).
  • Whether it's Reus or Barcelona, have a look at Vilanova i la Geltru which is midway between the two! Typical Spanish town with working port, marina and lovely beaches and small selection of hotels/apartments lining the beach. Lovely old town to wander round too. Much cheaper than it's neighbour, Sitges!
