Where to get tap holes drilled in a bath?

We are having a new bathroom fitted this week. We ordered a p-shaped bath from ebay which arrived today. The bath does not have any holes drilled for the taps to go into. I presume that this is because you can have different types of taps and they can go in different places.

The plumber says that normally the shop you buy them from will drill them for you once you have picked out the taps. He says that he could try but doesn't have the correct equipment and could damage the bath. Where can we go to get these holes drilled?

Many thanks

Your taps sill have instructios with them that tell you the daimeter of the hole needed. Take this to a tool store and buy a circular bit for your drill.
It literally cuts out a circle.

Any good pluimber who has insurance would take this on as part of the job without question.

That aside my husband fitted out our entire bathroom Jacuzzi bath shower cubicle bidet toilet and sink with only the advice of B&Q staff to assist him
    its not that difficult!!!!!
Its not how far you fall but how high you bounce back that matters

Another option is to have wall mounted taps (if you've not bought taps already.)

Thats the best bet, but if you need to do it then its easy to do.

Just get the diameter and distance between the centers from the old bath, you can practise on the old one to get it perfect, remember to drill a pilot hole first.

If you plumber cannot do it, or will not guarantee his work then dump him. Any plumber worth his salt can do it with his eyes closed.

You haven't said whether the bath is steel or acrylic. If it's acrylic then from what i found looking for baths is that alot of baths come without holes drilled - i'd get another more experienced plumber (i'm thinking if he can't drill holes in baths..what else can't he do!). If it's enamelled steel then it seems usual for them to be supplied with suitable holes drilled.

By the way most wall mounted bath taps are high pressure only (apart from a few like Grohe Eurodisc) as i was looking everywhere for wall mounted bath/shower mixer (not needed anymore as decided to not have a bath in the end).

Thanks for all the responses! :j You have confirmed what I already thought and that is that the plumber should be able to it.

DNK and phead: We have already brought the taps so unfortunately this isn't an option for us.

Andrew-b: The bath is acrylic and a quick look around B&Q today confirmed what you have said - that most baths come this way.

As for getting rid of him its a bit difficult he has already started the work and at the moment the room is bare and we need a functioning bathroom. Doubt we would be able to get someone to come in and do the work at such short notice. Plus there is the fact that he is the friend of a family member who recommended him.

Please be carefull when you or the plumber drill the holes.

Measure it several times and think before you drill, once the holes are in the wrong place they cannot be moved.

Make sure that you allow room for any tiles, and /or edging seals that seal the bath to the wall.

We are in a house where the bath was fitted by the prev owner, and the taps are pressing tight against the wall for this reason.

It looks ok but is a nightmare to clean.

Nothing I can do to fix it annoyingly.
